Institute of Slovak Literature of the SAS in Bratislava is the main centre for the research of Slovak literature. With its history going back to 1942, the non-university Institute carries out research of the history of Slovak literature and culture and helps develop methodological plurality of theoretical thought in Slovak literary culture.
It participates in national and international research projects and cooperates with many other institutes in Slovakia and abroad.
It educates young researchers and provides postgraduate studies in Philology – Slovak literature in cooperation with universities.
It promotes and popularises the research results at many public events and lectures and in the media.
It also cooperates with other educational organizations and schools in the area of teaching of Slovak literature.
The Institute is divided into three departments: department of literary history, department of literary theory, and department of textology and digital projects. An extensive library collection is also a part of the Institute.
