Ivana Taranenková is Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Institute of Slovak Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Bratislava, Slovakia). She holds a PhD in Slovak Literature from the Institute of Slovak Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (2005). Her research focuses on Slovak literature of the second half of the 19th century, national revival, realism, and contemporary Slovak literature, as well as on questions of national and cultural identity. She is the author of the monograph The Phenomenon of Vajanský (Fenomén Vajanský, Bratislava: Ars Poetica, 2010) and numerous journal articles on literary history and contemporary literature. Her co-authored publications include Searching for the Present: Slovak Literature at the Beginning of the 21st Century (2014), Configurations of Slovak Realism (2016), and Literary Contacts: Models, Identities, Representations (2020). She co-edited (with Katarina Gephardt and Charles Sabatos) the volume Home and the World in Slovak Writing: A Small Nation's Literature in Context (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2025) and is co-editor of the forthcoming Memory and Women's Life Writing in Post-Communist Europe (Routledge, 2026). She has also edited several volumes of 19th-century Slovak prose.
