In Search of the Present Time Published in Hungarian

4000

Over the past quarter-century, a talented and prolific new generation of translators, supported by grants from the Slovak Arts Council (FPU) and the Commission for the Support of Slovak Literature Abroad (SLOLIA), has produced a number of titles in contemporary Slovak prose, poetry and drama, as well as non-fiction literature. The subsequent reader interest in Slovak literature within the Hungarian cultural environment has created a need for a specialist publication that would comprehensively introduce this topic to anyone interested in contemporary Slovak literary events. At the initiative of the literary scholar, Slavicist and translator Magdolna Balogh, the Budapest-based publishing house Balassi Kiadó published a Hungarian translation of the collective publication Hľadanie súčasnosti. Slovenská literatúra začiatku 21. storočia (In Search of the Present Time. Slovak Literature at the Beginning of the 21st Century). The book was originally published by the Literary Information Center in 2014. It was edited by Radoslav Passia and Ivana Taranenková from the Institute of Slovak Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The book contains contributions from Karol Csiba, Michal Jareš, Veronika Rácová and Ľubica Somolayová (Schmarcová).
The Hungarian edition A jelen keresése. A szlovák irodalom a 21. század elején has been updated with a new introduction that looks at the current Slovak-Hungarian literary scene, and a final chapter that builds on the original interpretations of the book, adding new information and names that are important to the last ten years. The book also includes a bibliography of Slovak fiction translated into Hungarian between 2000 and 2025. It is intended for university students specialising in Slovak studies, as well as teachers, editors and all readers interested in Slovak literature.
